On this unique tour, our day begins in the Old City of Bethlehem uncovering the insights about this small city’s social, political, and religious aspects. Following the footsteps of Joseph and Mary, we walk along the street that led them to the Grotto of the Nativity – famously known as Star Street. Next explore the historic city and the way we make a stop at Bethlehem Icon Centre.
After that enter the city from to the old entrance of Bethlehem City and explore a different area called the Syrian Quarter one of Bethlehem’s 7 neighborhoods.We’ll admire the old-style buildings and atmosphere.
In the Old City we visit the Al Badd Museum for Olive Oil Production, which is a classic structure from the 18th–19th century. Inside, we’ll discover all sorts of artifacts that show how olive oil used to be made, giving us insight into the past tradition.
Continue our tour walking to the city’s central square, known as Manger Square. There, we take quick break to enjoy some traditional Bethlehem coffee.
Next, visit the Nativity Church the authentic place where Jesus was born. The Nativity is the oldest standing church in the world, built during the Byzantine period around the 5th century. When we go inside through the main entrance, known as “The Door of Humility,” we will explore the original mosaic floor from the first church that was built back in 326 AD, during Constantine’s time.
The most moving part of this tour is entering the GROTTO, where Jesus was born to Virgin Mary. It’s a significant and heartfelt place that connect us to this extraordinary moment in history.
After this touching experience, we stop to have traditional lunch at Afteem Restaurant.The tasty falafel, creamy hummus, and fresh veggie salad will keep us energized throughout the day. After lunch, we walk to Milk Grotto Street to visit the Church of Milk Grotto. Here, Virgin Mary fed baby Jesus, and a drop of milk turned the stones white as it fell on the ground.
Next, we drive the old town of Beit Sahour. Its name means “Place of the Night Watch,” recalls the shepherds who guarded their flock at night, as told in Luke 2:8. In this area, churches commemorate the locations of Shepherds’ Field where the Angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds, bringing them Good news of Jesus’ birth and here the Angels sang ‘Glory to God in the Highest and on Earth, Peace among men.
Finally, we end the tour with a stop at the Separation Wall and Walled off Hotel and Museum.
